A good mail week!

Whoa, I had a great mail week! I got a few more books from some swaptree trades, and a few more fabric swaps. This lovely, amazing bounty of fabric goodness came from Leah, she has got to be one of the sweetest people I 'know' and sent me such wonderful goodies. I sent her some fabric a while ago from my destash, and she took such great care in what she sent me. I *LOVE* this Alexander Henry print 'Traffic Jam', (she sent me a yard!!) and I had contemplated buying it many times on Etsy. Thanks Leah for sending me a wonderful package, it was seriously one of the best things I have opened in a while!
Some fun eye spy fabrics from quiltinkimmie. (now I need to start making some fun soft books!)
This is the "A Little Fabric A Little Chocolate" swap I received for July from flyinghippogirl.
I sent her a little fabric basket from the book 'Zakka Sewing' It is made with linen and vintage fabric.
This is what I sent her. She said she was making a green quilt, so I tried to find an assortment of nice green prints to send her. I pulled out a few fats from my stash that I had barely cut into, and 2 half yards of vintage fabrics. I made the little buttons on the bottom right, I used some cute Portuguese bunny fabric I had received in a previous swap.

Baby gifts

My friend Sara had a baby girl and since we aren't sick in the house anymore, I wanted to make her some special baby stuff for her little girl. Especially since the second child tends to get overlooked with special, just for them gifts..A little patchwork lovely blanket. This is the top, it is chenille, flannel and cotton.
I embroidered her sweet little name on the reverse cotton side.
And made up some tiny itty bitty baby shoes for her. I loved these polka dots, and there is a sheer ribbon bow on the top.
It was so nice to go visit and see her tiny little newborn. Some friends you can go for what seems like forever without seeing them, and it still feels just like yesterday. And then you wonder why it has been so long since you hung out. (well, we have been sick, but still...) It was so sweet to see Kiki playing with her daughter, who he has affectionately named 'Boo'. It also just made me so sad to think about moving away, and leaving behind this group of friends who I have known since Cristian was just a little baby. They are not only just my friends, but also his little friends; who he has been playing with since, well they would just stare at each other while we shopped or went for coffee :)
Good changes and opportunities to come, but also some amazing people that I will be leaving behind :( I just need to focus on the positive changes, becasue otherwise it makes me too sad to think about.

Quilt shop trip..

I went down to visit my Aunt this weekend and we went to a local quilt shop, Quilter's Heaven. I tried to be really good, as I was only planning on buying fabric for a quilt I am planning on making. I want to make a quilt using grey linen, and lots of different oranges. I love how this block looks, fun and simple :)
I did get a variety of oranges, I still think I may need more though. The fabric on the left is sock monkey fabric, I want to make some little baby shoes with it. The white with teal/light brown fabric is from Marcus Brothers and is so soft and silky I couldn't resist. Despite my fabric buying 'diet' I only walked out with two impulse purchases, which was really good considering the amount of lovely fabric they have at this shop! I like Quilter's Heaven better than my own local quilt shop :)
And I had to pick up a yummy cannoli on the way home. I don't know any place local to get a cannoli, so I bought two. I had every sweet intention of sharing one with my sweetie when he got home from work that night. I shared one in the car ride with Kiki, and the other one was eaten promptly after taking this picture. :P

Felt Food Pancakes- Tutorial

Here is my first felt food tutorial! Please let me know if anything is unclear, and I will answer in the comments so hopefully others will also understand better. If you make some pancakes, I would love to see your creations and link to them! (You may share this or post about this tutorial, just please link back to my site.)

You will need:
2 peices of tan felt- about a 6 inch square
1 peice of brown felt (for syrup)
1 peice of cream felt (for butter pat)
poly fil or filling of your choice
Coordinating thread
Sewing machine (or you can hand sew using a blanket stitch)

Print the template. Here is the link to the pdf file for the felt food pancake template.
Step 1:Sew the butter pat onto the syrup peice. You can add a little bit of poly fil into the butter pat if you wish.

Step 2: Sew the syrup onto the middle of pancake peice.
Butter pat and syrup sewn onto the center of the pancake peice.
Step 3: Lay your back pancake peice down(with no syrup on it) and place the top syrup pancake peice on top. The syrup and butter pat should face wrong side out, with the syrup and butter in the inside. Trace your pancake template onto the tan felt. Step 4:Sew along your outlined circle, leaving a 1 inch or so gap for turning, Backstitch at beginning and end.Trim excess felt, but leave extra around the turning hole, this will make it easier to handstitched closed becasue you will have more felt to hold onto.
Step 5: Turn the pancake right side out through the turning hole.Take care not to pull and stretch your felt too much.
Step 6: This is what your pancake will look like after you have turned it right side out and before it is stuffed.
Step 7:Fill your pancake with poly-fil and be very generous! You want it to be nice and firmly packed. Push as much of the poly fil away from the seam as you can before you start to stitch the seam closed.Step 8: Whip stitch your opening closed. I usually stitch along the seam twice, once to get it closed, the second time for durability. If you seam look very straight when you are finished, simply squish the poly fil around in the pancake to help fill out the edge of your seam.
Step 9: Your finished! Now make another pancake and some eggs to complete a breakfast set!
(Anyone want an egg tutorial? Something else -a veggie or fruit that they would love to make? Let me know and it can be my next tute!)
Again, let me know if anything wasnt clear. And if you make one, I would love to see a picture!

A trip to the park!

This may seem like some not very special.. but this was seriously the second time we have gone to the park this summer. With Wisconsin weather not really getting really warm until July, er it still isn't actually that warm outside, and with Cristian being sick for what seemed like the whole summer.. But is was nice to get out and play.My nephew Milo met up with us at the park, and right away they jumped into this little car together.
Sliding down the slides together. Cristian saw a bigger boy climb up the slide, and then decided he had to do it that way too. No point in walking all the way around to the steps. No, that would be too far.
'Driving' on this little wall that was a car.
Chiquitin sat so nice in my carrier. He kept letting out little 'hmms' in approval of being outside. There was barely any sun yesterday, and I was actually quite windy too..

He loved the swing. I think that is an understatement. Cristian at this age HATED being in a playground swing, he would just kick and scream with terror. I was so surprised that Chiquitin just sat there kicking his legs and squealing with delight. This is definitely one of my favorite pictures if him :) Now if we could just get some more sunshine around here..

WIP Wednesday

Making some felt food! I haven't made anything in months, and I forgot how fun it was to make some of this! This is for an etsy order that I am putting together. I have half of the cakes done, just need to make the chocolate. I also still need to make some farfalle pasta and some raviolis. Then just stuff and a lot of hand sewing!
I plan on posting some tutorials to some felt food in the next few days.. Does anyone know how to attach a pdf file onto blogger? Or a site I can upload it to as a host? Or some other way to link to a pdf picture of the templates needed?
Also, if anyone would like any certain felt food tutorial posted, let me know and I will see what I can do!

Easy Fruit Cobbler

My sister sent me this recipe, and it is sooo delish. I made this up last night and would have eaten half the pan if my stomach didn't disagree with me..
So easy, so simple but it turns out so very yummy. I didn't even need ice cream with it, since it is so sweet from the berries and sugar. But you can be indulgent and serve it with some vanilla ice cream :)

Ingredients:
4 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup milk
2 cups of sliced fresh peaches or nectarines, or whole blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries or a combination of fruits (or a 12-ounce package of frozen berries)
1 tablespoon sugar

( I used sliced strawberries, blueberries and raspberries in mine. cherries would be good, Or peaches with blueberries.)

Preheat oven to 350 F. Put butter in an 8 inch square or 9 inch round pan, set in oven to melt.
When butter has melted, remove pan from oven.
Whisk flour, 3/4 cup of sugar, baking powder and salt in small bowl. Add milk; whisk to form a smooth batter. Pour batter into pan, then scatter fruit over batter. Sprinkle with remaining 1 Tb. of sugar.
Bake until batter browns and fruit bubbles, 50 to 60 minutes. Serve warm.
Or in my case, eat immediately because it so so bubbly good and burns your mouth :)

Recipe is from Allrecipes.com.

Monday already?

I don't know what happened to the weekend, and I already feel like there is so many things to get done this week, and not enough time. Despite it only being Monday morning. Finally making something for myself. This is a close up of the buttercup Bag I made. It's about time I have my own purse to carry my things in when I am not toting around a diaper bag! You can get the buttercup bag pattern here on MadebyRae's blog. I enlarged the pattern by 1 1/2 inches to make it a bit bigger. The fabric is 'HS Floating Petals' and is a home decor print from Joann's.
A wallet I attempted to make for my sweetie. Total failure. Ok, maybe not total because I know what I did wrong. But I get discouraged when things don't turn out how I want them to. If this wasn't for my sweetie (and he didn't keep bugging me about not having a wallet) I would not even bother on trying to make it again. I just need to get enthused about making another. Embroidery is from the 'Dia de los Muertos' set from Sublime Stitching.

I am trying really hard to build up my inventory in my shop. I have 10 more booklets laid out on my table, I finished these Birdies and Trees booklets last night. I will have them listed later on today.

Burp cloths, Apples. Set of two chenille burp cloths in my shop.

And a little sneak peek of something I made up for my friend Sara, who just had a baby girl. :)

Airplane!!

Last weekend a B-17 bomber came into out local airport. I had the worst headache, and a fever that just wouldn't go away. But I knew how awesome this would be for Cristian, so I was determined to 'feel better' (I took 2 naps, followed by 2 showers and an Advil..) I was dizzy the whole time we were there but it was fun in the end..Inside the cockpit. Cristian was so amazed with everything, he didn't even touch the hundreds of knobs or pull on the levers like the other kids.
Here is is 'flying' with Oso.B-17 Bomber from the front view.
Pin-up girl on the side of the plane and refueling door..
Propellers bigger than me.
Cristian was so excited the whole time, running around and pointing everything out to us. "Papa, mira, copado" (that is how he pronounces helicóptero) They were doing rides in the Bomber for $425, which would have been great but not for that price. While we were there 2 small planes took off and 2 helicopters landed. Cristian talked about seeing the airplanes and helicopters for days :)

Vintage Fat Quarter Swap!

I received my fat quarters yesterday in the Vintage Sheet Swap hosted by Rosey Little Things!

Love all of the fun, bright colors I received! I want to make a big 9 patch, something to use when outside, and not worry about it getting dirty..
I was going to stick to a orange/yellow/green color scheme but then I received so many other great prints.
These are a few pulled from my stash. I am thinking it would be nice to stick to those colors, but then I also think it would all just blend together... So, should I stick to yellow, orange and green or do a random selection of prints, in bright colors?
These are the fat quarters I sent off in the swap.

Special Day!

Today is a special day! Tonight during mass I will take part in a small ceremony to become officially accepted into the Catholic church. I am kinda nervous though, I will have to read the nicene creed aloud in front of the church! Even though I have it memorized, I fear that I will mess up...
I am trying to restock my shop. I finished up 8 crayon booklets last night and today. I will be working on more to try and have more of a selection in my shop. Listed already-

Crayon Booklet, Lil' Cowpokes . This booklet was also featured on Cuteable today, how exciting!

(I have made this before, just trying to restock it)

Crayon Booklet, Dick and Jane, Blocks. I have a few more fun Dick and Jane crayon booklets that I will be adding to my shop in the next day or so.

I also made my own banner for my shop, and changed my avatar. I would appreciate any feedback on it! :]

Sick.

Cristian got the chicken pox a few weeks ago. Or at least, that is what I was told. The nurse on the phone told me it sounded like pox, but because it is so contagious, we couldn't go in to see the doctor. Well after having outbreaks for about 2 weeks, he has been fine. It actually wasn't really that bad, he didn't scratch, or he knew better than to scratch them. Besides having these little pimples on his skin he was a perfectly fine, active toddler. It has been over a week now since he has had any outbreaks, but I was told he was still contagious for the next 21 days. Not being able to leave the house is probably why I have gotten so much sewing done! ( Although- my sewing stuff and where I sew is in the front of my house, where Cristian cannot get to. So I have seen no danger to anything I have been sending out in the mail- do not worry. I wouldn't endanger anyone's children!..)

So on Wednesday I put the baby down for his morning nap, he had been burning up all night long and very irritable. Cristian fell asleep watching The Flintstones..which is very unusual since he doesn't nap anymore, especially in the morning. When I noticed he was sleeping I said "Kiki, wake up" He barely opened his eyes and kept telling me 'no I sleeping' . It was quite cute and reminded me of a teen..

Then he threw up all over the couch, and everything in his path to the bathroom... I took his and baby Chiquitin's temperature- both 103. Luckily Chiquitin didn't start throwing up, but Cristian couldn't keep anything down all day. He was throwing up so forcefully his little tiny body was shaking and his soup was coming out from his nose.My poor little guy. :(

I called my Comadre, who was over within the hour from when Cristian started getting sick. She was able to get him to eat/drink something. (all of which came right back up after she left) Both of them were fien all day yesterday, just a little sluggish. it must have been some kind of 24 hour bug..
We have been talking about moving out to Denver, pretty much made up our minds really...It is so sad for me to think about moving away from the people that we are so close with, to try and have to start over. We don't have many people who we are close with, and it is still very strange for me to have people in my children's life who are there for them simply because they care about them so greatly. That they want to spend time with them because they love them so much. So that's where I am at, deciding on starting over, having a fresh start but having to leave some people behind that can never be replaced in our lives. And not being able to visit them nearly enough as my heart would ache to.(This is the most delicious enchiladas de mole that my Comadre brought over for me to eat. I had forgotten what an amazing cook she is. This dish seriously just warmed me inside out- like some amazing kind of comfort food. mmm. So thoughtful and like her, to not only come over to help me with the children, but to make sure I am taken care of as well)

A quick post

Just a quick post, I am going to keep the sale in my shop going until Monday.

A picture of Me with Chiquitin all snuggled up in a sarape. It worked great for keeping him all cuddly and warm close to me. It was weird and sad to think about celebrating the fouth and thinking about not being here for next years fireworks. It puts things into perspective when you look at your family and think, this may be the last time I see you or celebrate this holiday together. Hope everyone had a great fourth of July weekend!

Oh,I was featured in a treasury! you can see it here.

The818 is havign an awesome giveway for a very cool calendar necklace! Check out the giveway here.
