Finishing up..

I have finally finished up some projects that have been sitting on my counter for far too long..A second pair of boots. Made with 100% wool outers and fleece lining. I figured out the two things I am still unhappy with in the pattern, and I believe my next pair should come out better.
These have been a WIP for far too long. I finished up all 10 floral centerpieces for the wedding reception. I am glad I didn't have grand plans of making more of these. I think it took about 10 hours to finish all 10 centerpieces. Probably should have just went with silk and called it a day. I will be the only one looking at them and appreciating all their handmade-ness. Oh well. I will just need to stick a little light in the glass gems so the vase illuminates during the reception. I also tied a ribbon bow on one- can you see it? I think it looks lame, but sweetie likes it. Anyone care to tell me what they think? Bow or no bow?

Baby Boots!

I threw in the towel on trying to make up my own baby boots pattern once I came across this one from ithinksewdotcom. Love the fun, funky style and just love the button details. My friend Sarah asked me if I was going to be making boots for the colder months ahead, I haven't stopped obsessing about making them since last week.I picked up some fabrics from Joanns this weekend. Some plaids, shirtings, home decor weight fabric and some twill.
Picked up some new 100% wool from thrifting this weekend. Each of these still had the store tags on them! The top is a camel brown, charcoal grey in the middle, and heather grey with stripes on the bottom. These will make great outers for baby boots.

And here is my first try with the pattern. Still a little wonky (and wrinkly). I think if I use some softer fabric (at least for lining) it will help with the construction, and how the lining lays inside the boot. I am going to make a few more pairs to get more comfortable with the pattern before I start sewing them for my shop.

Teensy Weensy

Teensy Weeny Buttercup Bags. I made two more for birthday gifts this weekend. I added a little lip gloss in each. Hannah Montana of course, since when you are 7&8 that is apparently all that matters :) You can get the pattern over on MadebyRae's blog, I made these smaller by 1 1/2 inches.

Has anyone used Hemp/Organic Fleece before? I have found a few sellers on Etsy who have some, but one notes that it piles with washing. Anyone have any experience with it? I am wondering if the quality is worth the price.. I will be using it to line baby boots if that makes any difference... Or anyone know where to get some natural hemp canvas? I think it would work well for soles.

Been making..

I have been sewing making more baby shoes. I forgot how fun it is to make little wee things :)

Baby Shoes, Airplanes . I also made Chiquitin a pair and I love how it goes with so many outfits.
Baby Shoes, Sweet Polka Dots
Baby Shoes, Little Sweet Pea
Baby Shoes, Little Doggies
And trying to figure out a pattern to make baby boots. This is all wrong. I think I am going to try to figure out how to do an opening on the top 'boot' part. And the sole needs to be longer and skinnier. Ah well.

Going to miss..

The Lake. The smell of the water. The calmness it gives me.
Cristian playing in the tiny rocks along the water's edge.
Cristian throwing rocks into the water. Yelling 'Big Splash!!' Chiquitin liked playing with the little rake.
And enjoyed looking around. He just loves being outside.
Wiggling his chubby little toes in the sand. He also had his first taste of sand. And a rock, which he kept licking until I threw it into the water.

Wedding Flowers

With less than three weeks until the wedding, I am trying to get some diy projects finished. (or started really, eep..)Whew. 90 tissue paper flowers folded up. So grateful that my Aunt and cousin came to help out and we got 2/3 of them done. (in two hours)
After the flowers are folded, you have to fan out the tissue to make the 'petals'. The cheap, thin dollar store tissue worked better than the grey craft tissue from Michael's.

One centerpiece done. I just need to fill with glass rocks, and drop a little light in for the reception.
Only 9 to go. I was very optimistic, and thought I was going to make twice this many for the reception, and also make some small ones in paper cones for end of aisle decorations at the church. Yeah, no time or energy for that now..
I followed a tutorial from Zakka Life, but I did the red and white flowers 3.5 inches, and the silver are 3 inches. I also used up to 10 layers of tissue paper, this helped to create a fuller looking flower.
Here is another cute, similar tute for tiny tissue paper flowers.

Zoo!

We made a trip up to the Milwaukee Zoo last weekend. It was nice to do something as a family, and at least feel like we did something this summer. Here I am as Momma giraffe with Cristian. He thought this was just so funny that we were giraffes.Chiqutin did really well in the carrier, and enjoyed sitting in the wagon with Cristian too. (which surprised me, Cristian would have nothing to do with that when he was 10 months old...) I think he just enjoys being outside, and was looking around at everything.
Cristian and I outside of the brown bear exhibit. I couldn't get him to stop making silly faces. And I ripped my contact that morning, so had to wear my glasses which I now despise. I tried explaining to Cristian how the bear inside the exhibit was the same as his teddy bear 'oso' but he just said "Nooo" in his little grunty voice.
Cristian and the giraffe. As soon as he spotted the giraffes, he wanted nothing to do with the other animals. We were by the elephants and they were playing in the water. Cristian thought this was so funny, and kept telling me 'Silly elephants, you taking a bath". The elephants were one of the animals he knew the name of when he saw them, and also knew what sound they made.
We went on the train ride around the park before we left, and Cristian kept yelling 'Keke like it train! Keke like it train!' when I asked him about going to the zoo later that day, or the next day, that was the part he kept repeating to me :)

Felt Food!

Here is what I spent the last week working on! I had a friend send someone they knew my way to put together a felt food order for them. Felt Food Pancakes and eggs. How fun would it be to make the eggs green to go with the Dr. Seuss book?

Some little felt food cakes and tiny tea party napkins. These are about 5 inches or so big.
Felt Food Farfalle and Felt Food Raviolis. I made up extra farfalle for my shop, check them out here while I have them in stock (and cheap!)

This is the whole order together. That was a lot of hand sewing, now I remember why I stopped making so much felt food!

Pasta Caprese

This was inspired by the dish at Corner Bakery. I love caprese salad, and with pasta it made it even better!

8 ounces Cavatappi pasta
3 Roma tomatoes, sliced or cut into wedges
fresh basil- about half of a 3/4 ox package (3-4 leaves)
fresh mozzarella- I used half a 8 oz container of ciliegine- sliced or cut into wedges
Caprese dressing

Boil pasta in salted water until al dente. You don't want to overcook it because once you add the dressing, the pasta will become softer. Chop up your basil, cut you mozzarella and the tomatoes. Once the pasta is done, cool in the refrigerator. Once cool, add you pasta, mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes all into a big bowl. Add caprese dressing, and stir. This tastes even better after it sits for a little while. I used Marie's Caprese dressing, you can find it by the refrigerated salads and dressings. I used about half a bottle or so.

Super easy and fast to make!

County Fair!

I went out to the county fair with two of my friends and their little girls. So glad I went, it was a really fun time! Here are the kiddos checking out the eggs hatching.
Cristian looking at the ducks. He was excited to point out the patos (ducks) and doodle doodle doo's (roosters- he just knows what noise they make thanks to the farm behind out house)
Paige, Haylie and Cristian climbed up on some big tractors. This was one of Cristian's favorite parts of the day. When we went to playgroup this week, he asked if he was going with Paige and Haylie to see the tractors :)There was an awesome petting area, with so many baby animals. Here they are looking at the baby chicks. I tried getting Cristian to hold one, but it would jump out of my hand before he would grab a hold of it. He enjoyed seeing the ducks, baby quails and the pony.
Little Paige is such a sweetheart. She was eating a snow cone and I saw her tongue turned blue, but when I tried to take a picture she got all sad!
The kids went on one ride together, and I was amazed that none of them were not too scared to ride with one of the parents. The all seemed to love the train, and were smiling and laughing as it went around.Cristian loved the train :)

WIP Wednesday

Whew! It feels like forever since I have gotten to sew. With Chiquitin not napping regularly, it leaves me little time to sew.Making up some tiny newborn shoes. I am using Kokka 'Trefle' Japanese fabric with Joel Dewberry's "Deer Valley". It is so fun to make things that are tiny :)

Some quilt blocks. I am working on a grey linen and various oranges quilt. I am going to make a throw quilt, but nice and big -60x70 or so. That way I can cuddle with my kiddos or my sweetie. I have used up all my linen, so I need to go pick up more to keep working on this quilt top. I have 12 blocks finished, and need to sew 30 more. I used this tutorial for the blocks, but will cut the blocks to have different widths around the off set center square. If anyone has any Amy Butler's Tangerine Full Moon Dot and would like to swap, please contact me! I thought it would be super cute in this quilt!

Itty Bitty

Buttercup Bag!I made up this tiny version of the Buttercup Bag for a very cute little girl, Paige. I brought some baby gifts over to her tiny baby sister and she noticed my purse. she asked me "Did you make it? It's pretty!" (I think her mother had just said something like this..) I told her yes, and would she like one? Her little face was excited, and I promised to have one for her next time I saw her.
It sewed up in about an hour or so, this is a comparison to the original pattern. Sure enough, when I went to playgroup last week she walked right up to me and asked if I had her purse :) I thought it was so very sweet that she remembered. I will definitely have to make more tiny bags in the near future..
And just because, well I needed another two year old model. Kiki enjoyed showing off Paige's bolsa (purse).

Not so Chiqutin anymore..

I have been meaning to write this post for around a month now. In one more week my Chiquitin will be 10 months old.He has started crawling around. It is more of a scoot, since he can't pick his belly all the way off the floor yet. It reminds me of a turtle. :) He has also been reaching for everything, especially electronics. He can turn the dvd player off much to Cristian's dislike.

After bath time. Not something he likes so much anymore. I finally gave up on the baby bath and just give Cristian plenty of bath toys to play with so he doesn't splash Chiqutin. Both of them hate to have their hair washed though.

Last week he didn't nap. Not at all, and Cristian doesn't nap anymore either. It made for one looong week. I finally got him to stay asleep after grocery shopping by laying him on the couch.
He has been eating everything. He is such an independent eater, so very different than Cristian was at this age. He is really into feeding himself. I got him some biter biscuits and they are just the best thing ever to him. (they are actually pretty yummy too)
He is completely on table food. We grilled last night, and here he is eating a jalapeno. It wasn't spicy at all to me, and he took 3 bites, and cried when it was taken away from him. This week he has tried rice, beans, chorizo and liked it all. Hopefully he wont be such a picky eater when he grows up..
